Got this from the news today... A certain Chip Tsao from Hongkong, author and columnist. Nag-iinit ulo ko... Paki-basa na lang po at welcome po ang any VIOLENT reactions dito.

The War at Home
By Chip Tsao

The Russians sank a Hong Kong freighter last month, killing the seven Chinese seamen onboard. We can live with that-—Lenin and Stalin were once the ideological mentors of all Chinese people. The Japanese planted a flag on Diàoyú Island. That's no big problem-—we Hong Kong Chinese love Japanese cartoons, Hello Kitty, and shopping in Shinjuku, let alone our round-the-clock obsession with karaoke.

But hold on-—even the Filipinos? Manila has just claimed sovereignty over the scattered rocks in the South China Sea called the Spratly Islands, complete with a blatant threat from its congress to send gunboats to the South China Sea to defend the islands from China if necessary. This is beyond reproach. The reason: There are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as HK$3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong. As a nation of servants, you don't flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter.

As a patriotic Chinese man, the news has made my blood boil. I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, hung a map on the wall, and gave her a harsh lecture. I sternly warned her that if she wants her wages increased next year, she had better tell everyone of her compatriots in Statue Square on Sunday that the entirety of the Spratly Islands belongs to China.

Grimly, I told her that if war breaks out between the Philippines and China, I would have to end her employment and send her straight home, because I would not risk the crime of treason for sponsoring an enemy of the state by paying her to wash my toilet and clean my windows 16 hours a day. With that money, she would pay taxes to her Government, and they would fund a navy to invade our motherland and deeply hurt my feelings.

Oh yes. The Government of the Philippines would certainly be wrong if they think we Chinese are prepared to swallow their insult and sit back and lose a Falkland Islands War in the Far East. They may have Barack Obama and the hawkish American military behind them, but we have a hostage in each of our homes in the Mid-Levels or higher. Some of my friends told me they have already declared a state of emergency at home. Their maids have been made to shout 'China, Madam/Sir' loudly whenever they hear the word "Spratly". They say the indoctrination is working as wonderfully as when we used to shout, "Long live Chairman Mao!" at the sight of a portrait of our Great Leader during the Cultural Revolution. I’m not sure if that's going a bit too far, at least for the time being.

Here we go over-reacting again to a satirical character.

I actually found it funny. In a way it was actually a left-handed compliment on Filipina DH's especially when he said: "I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila... "

Everytime someone makes a comment about Filipinos, everyone jumps on the bandwagon. There was this furor when Jon Stewart branded Cory Aquino as a "slut" turned out he was referring to another Aquino slut.

The reactions run the gamut of inanities and posturing:

A politician who wants the 130,000 DH's to boycott HK...saan kukuha ng trabaho ang mga yun at this time? The same politician challenges Chip Tsao to a boxing match and I won't be surprised if another columnist would write about Filipinos being a "Nation of Violent People" or "Nation of Onion-skinned People"

It's all about perception too. Of about 200,000 Filipinos in HK, 130,000 are Domestic Helpers or servants.

So can you blame someone from HK from saying that the Philippines is a nation of servants? It's like saying that China is a Nation of Chinese

Come on guys turn on your "Sense of Humor Switch

You don't see Americans going up in arms when they are called a "Greedy and Wasteful Nation" and you don't see China protesting when someone calls me "Chinese Bakla".

We have bigger problems in our country than to dwell on some satirists joke.

The Servant waits while the Master Bathes

Here is another case of stupid posturing:

MANILA, Philippines — Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri on Monday said he would file a resolution calling on the Department of Foreign Affairs to file a diplomatic protest against a Hong Kong columnist who he said should apologize for a racial slur against overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Zubiri referred to a March 27 online column titled, “The War at Home,” by Chip Tsao, who said that with over 130,000 Filipinos working as domestic helpers in Hong Kong, the Philippines could not claim the Spratlys, a group of islands being claimed by several countries, including China.

"As a nation of servants, you can’t flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn your bread and butter," Tsao wrote in his column, which Zubiri quoted in a statement.

"Look who’s talking," Zubiri said. "For the record, China was once the largest producer of overseas contract workers who built the train stations in the United States, who worked in the mines of central Asia, and the country that established the most number of so-called Chinatowns in the World."

He said Tsao should not shame Filipinos "for their hard work and diligence in contributing to our country."

He said Tsao should do his research so "he might find that his ancestors were overseas contract workers as well."

Zubiri also said the government maybe should ban all Chinese products in the Philippines "if this if this writer feels that the OFWs of Hong Kong should all be kicked out."

"I am filing a resolution to ask the Department of Foreign Affairs to immediately send a formal diplomatic protest to that publication strongly urging them to apologize to the Filipino people for the derogatory remark,” he said.

Senator Francis Escudero meanwhile called on the government to defend the dignity of Filipino.

"If we need to take legal action against Tsao, let us do so," Escudero said in a statement.

He said the government should take the initiative "by hiring a lawyer in Hong Kong if at all, and file a case for damages."

He said doing so would send the message that the Philippines "will not take this sitting down" and show that the government "somehow listens and acts for them and defends them." Edited by INQUIRER.net

Here is one reader's reaction:

LMAO at the overreaction from our great politicians:

All this idiotic grandstanding just because of an article by an idiot journalist? Immigration blacklist? Filing legal cases? Banning Chinese products? He's a nobody. At most, demand a public apology from Chip Tsao himself (his editors and publishers already did). Shame the fr@cker. But please, don't waste time on this idiot Chip Tsao. Your time is better spent improving our country.

All this indignant blustering will get us nowhere. Reminds me of the overreaction to Charlie Sheen's and Claire Danes' negative comments about our country.

What's laughable is that Zubiri actually mentioned banning products from China. So where does he expect Pinoys to get cheap merchandise then? He'll end up hurting the average Pinoy even more.

And another reader commented:

And if you think they look nutty in print, wait till you get down on a personal level with them. It's either you find them funnier in person or you'd want to stab them in the eye with your steak knife. I'd prefer the latter, but who'd handle national comedy...

It's really terrifying to agree to a resolution to ban products from China or Hongkong for that matter. Mukhang wala na talagang mabibili ang isang average Juan nyan and also the caricature is hilarious, it really shows that every product is coming out of China nowadays. I also agree that surely every politician will ride the "chip shot express" (as I would call it) especially that the election is just around the corner (though I haven't heard any reaction from Gloria since the news came out. Ow.. Right... ZTE). There are other ways to boycott China like... Don't ride or take Cathay pacific flights.. or don't buy pirated DVD's from Chinese, sa Indyano na lang.. or settle for a Russian instead of Chinese at Naif...

How many times has it been that we Filipinos have been hit with racism comments.. A show from England, Desperate Housewives, Jon Stewart (Cory is not a slut... she was just "used") and don't forget our very own Malou Fernandez (ah.. yes.. those were the days). Correct me if I'm wrong but 3 of these already issued an apology (though I really don't know or don't care if Jon Stewart made one) and one of them fell (Malou Fernandez). Wala nang balita... baka pumayat na kaya hindi na mamukhaan.

Panahon ni Makoy (Marcos) Hindi mangyayari na mapalilibutan ng Chinese ang Spratlys. It's ours as Marcos have stretched our sea borders, including Sabah as I recall. Is it because nasa South China Sea ang Spratlys that's why they're claiming it their own? I think it's much nearer to the Philippines than any other country out there. Bakit pinabayaan ng government natin? O..o... Gloria! Wag kang co-corrupt! bwahahahaha! Hey! I'm actually laughing.

How long will this issue last? Both the publisher and the journalist already made an apology but is it enough? Baka ningas kugon na naman to. Insulting? YES! to some of us.. I think.. Satirical? To a common Hongkong or Chinese man baka hindi rin nila naiintindihan ang salitang satirical but I'm sure they are laughing their hearts out upon reading the column. Double meaning... Please do tell me the other meaning of that column baka bobo lang talaga ako o baka naman parable yung isinulat nya at kailangan pa ng divine assistance (sarcastic... I know). One things for sure... Hindi bibitiwan ng mga politicians ang issue na ito hanggang dumating ang election day.

I love Chinese! as a patter of mac I have this Chinese classmate back in college who would treat me every night for 1 bottles of beers (hehehe). He said he was more Filipino than Chinese and even married a Filipina neglecting his mothers wish for him to marry a Chinese girl and I'm sure he would love to have a piece of this Chip Shot if given the chance.

i was watching Bandila last night and i came across this news, they did not say anything else except the fact that the columnist have apologized, i thought, i am sure they are already discussing this on MP, that's why i made it my life's purpose to visit MP today, and you guys never fail me...LOL

people always say, the truth hurts...i had trouble once when I published an article in defense of a student who left a comment on her blog saying that nurses are glorified nannies... there was a lot of clamour about it in the school, when i told my friend who happens to be a nurse that i actually agree with the comment, she almost walked out on me..LOL..she felt better when i said..hey i will be a glorified tanod or guard, take your pick,,, LOL....truth is we are all servants...education is the fine line..nonetheless we are all tied to service, i think life is for nought without service.

the article bruises pride yes, but it is the truth. we could fight back how? rising above, proving otherwise...why not further their fight over the spratly's rather than fighting over an apology that would somehow save the ego of the rich filipinos who could not face the fact that half their fellow filipinos, the race that they are a part of are mostly servants of other countries...

the article was also saying that filipino professionals migrate in order to work as maids,, another awful truth, this is more of a strike on the government rather than the filipino people. So, understand the exaggerated reactions of the politicians, they are wounded, hurt and needs someone to blame.

i would end this with, it doesn't matter what jobs you hold, so long as it is decent and legal, there is no reason to be shamed. it is all in the matter of people's perspective, at the end of it all,, a title is just a title, it doesn't mean a thing, we are all workers and servants...of GOD - nagmamahal, G. Canillo... LMAO!!!! HAHAHA! ang saya saya!

Another BLOG???!..lol...I dont care much whatever job the filipinos have abroad...as long as it has dignity, self-respect and on the right side of the law....It is those "servants" hardship that brings food to their family's mouth. It is their hardwork that pays for the tuition fee of their children and siblings....And it is their "kapal-ng-mukha" to work their ass off to provide themselves and their family a better life, that if they chose to stay in the philippines, will probably make them otherwise..

We are fu*king too sensitive when we hear bad comments...There is always a retaliation. Comments may all be true... But Who cares??? And if it's any consolation, we are not the only country/race that is being mocked on a movie, news, tv, etc....

When are we going to learn and stop licking our wounds & bruised egos with matching sky-high pride? It's always been an automatic self-defense-pass-the-blame, isn't it?

About Spratly Islands......Filipinos, chinese, etc. were already fishing around it years and years ago (including the marcos regime)...Many of these islands are partially submerged islets, rocks, and reefs that are little more than shipping hazards not suitable for habitation. The islands are important, however, for strategic and political reasons, because ownership claims to them are used to bolster claims to the surrounding sea and its resources. The South China Sea is rich in natural resources such as oil and natural gas. This is the reason why there are disputes going on.

Geographically speaking, malapit ang spratly's sa pilipinas. But the chinese said that they have been there a long time ago. But who's going to prove what? Ayaw namang makialam ng Amerika dito dahil sila ay hindi kasali. Hindi naman kaya ng Pilipinas makibakbakan sa China, dahil: Population pa lang eh talo na tayo. Then wala tayong laban sa kanilang ammunition....I suggest, don't hold your breath on this one ODRALEON...It will be an open case for a long, long time.

Philippine Territorial coverage has been defined by the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and confirmed in our Contirution. No amount of subsequent Laws can change that.

The US paid Spain US$20M Dollareses for the Philippines and then gave us Independence...ATIN ITO!!!

Treaty of Paris of 1898

Commissioners from the United States and Spain met in Paris on October 1, 1898 to produce a treaty that would bring an end to the war after six months of hostilities. The American peace commission consisted of William R. Day, Sen. Cushman K. Davis, Sen. William P. Frye, Sen. George Gray, and the Honorable Whitelaw Reid. The Spanish commission was headed by Don Eugenio Montero Rios, the President of the Senate. Jules Cambon, a French diplomat, also negotiated on Spain's behalf. The American commissioners negotiated in a hostile atmosphere because all Europe, except England, was sympathetic to the Spanish side.

Although the Conference discussed Cuba and debt questions, the major conflict concerned the situation of the Philippines. Admiral Dewey's victory had come as a great surprise and it marked the entrance of the United States into the Pacific. Spanish commissioners argued that Manila had surrendered after the armistice and therefore the Philippines could not be demanded as a war conquest, but they eventually yielded because they had no other choice, and the U.S. ultimately paid Spain 20 million dollars for possession of the Philippines. The islands of Puerto Rico and Guam were also placed under American control, and Spain relinquished its claim to Cuba. The treaty was signed on December 10, 1898.

ARTICLE III

Spain cedes to the United States the archipelago known as the Philippines Islands, and comprehending the islands lying within the following line:

A line running from west to east along or near the twentieth parallel of north latitude, and through the middle of the navigable channel of Bacchi, from the one hundred and eighteenth to the one hundred and eighteenth to the one hundred and twenty-seventh degree meridian of longitude east of Greenwich, thence along the parallel and forty-five minutes north latitude to its intersection with the meridian of longitude one hundred and nineteen degrees and thirty-five minutes east of Greenwich to the parallel of latitude seven degrees and forty minutes north to its intersection with the one hundred and sixteenth degree meridian of longitude east of Greenwich, and thence along the one hundred and eighteenth degree meridian of longitude east of Greenwich to the point of beginning.

The United States will pay to Spain the sum of twenty million dollars, within three months after the exchange of the ratifications of the present treaty.
