A 7.2B project for the automation of elections here in the Philippines. However, Smartmatic may decline from the project due to its company's internal problems (Local Information Technology Provider [TIM] backed out, questions, Smartmatics power on the software developed on counting votes)...i'm sorry i can't get more technical than that...my brain started to hurt at the sight of the word software! haha

just what are the pros and cons of automated and manual elections....anyone who can make me a graph..idiot's guide.. lol

i need it, friends and foes help. you have 2 more days to post! LMAO

Filipinos have the expertise and the resources to fabricate their own automated voting machines; kaya lang may mental colony tayo at kaunti lang ang kikitain ng mga Koreans.

Magkano korean?
Magkano commission korean?
Sali a korean.

Automated or Manual Elections for 2010

The drive for an automated election has been initiated since the 2004 elections. However, our leaders manage to find ways to botch up its realization overtime.

Malacañang seems confident that COMELEC can salvage the situation they are into regarding the Total Information Management-Smartmatic dilemma. I think, The Arroyo Administration is in too deep to allow for the 2010 elections to revert to manual polls. However, stranger things have happened in this administration that I have lost the ability to be surprised by its decisions.

What do I think would happen? If Smartmatics does decide to pull out any involvement in the 2010 elections, surely, we would revert to manual elections. Smartmatics is the entity involved in the ARMM elections, TIM during that time was not even involved in the held elections. It doesn’t make any sense, why we are wasting time negotiating with TIM in the first place if we have other alternatives. I say, find ways to make TIM pay for damages, and look for another local partner.

I do have questions, “naiwan sa ere” an individual who was left hanging and clutching for dear life in mid air and survived it, would surely retaliate. Yet Malacañang showed nothing but eerie calmness in receiving the news regarding the TIM pulling out off Smartmatics’ contract on automated elections. The entire country is put into jeopardy because of an entity’s personal interests and professional conflicts, yet the reaction of the government seems a little too passive.

We, Filipinos have the knack of living way beyond our means just so we could follow the trend.

Some do not even know how to hold a pen right, how many percentage of the Filipino people are educated? Computer illiterate? Do we have the resources not to mention the patience to herd the illiterate Filipinos in the step by step process of an automated election? Is it feasible in ten months time? ARMM elections took 3 whole months to prepare for the automated elections, we have ten months left and we have not even taken the first step we are already faced with problems.

Personally, I think automated elections is good, it’s convenient, minimizes the election’s susceptibility for fraud, and it is accurate and yields fast results.

A lot of Filipinos demand guarantees, is it hack free? Is it secure? There are no guarantees, nothing is impenetrable, everything, is a risk. If there is a will there is a way to rig just about anything. My chief concern is, how prepared are we? Security wise, to fend off these threats; education wise, do we have enough time to educate people from all walks of life in the automation system; budget wise, can we afford this method without sacrificing the people’s immediate needs?

Too much eagerness to follow the lead of progressive countries is not a wise decision, we are way behind, we can't just skip lanes or stages. Why can't we for once try to think things through as a whole package and imagine the whole scenario before enforcing our personal convictions?

I agree with automated elections, but do it by stages, do it increment by increment. If we are after a clean election, then enforce automation in those areas where cheating is rampant, Even COMELEC recognizes the fact that cheating is not happening all over the Philippines, rather there are areas which are vulnerable and known for ill practices during elections. These areas are known to COMELEC, why not concentrate automated resources on those areas for the meantime, while the country is still coping and adjusting with all this innovation and then slowly move to a national level.

I believe haste, makes waste.
