Euthanasia is the process of painlessly helping a terminally ill person to die. Also known as assisted suicide or mercy killing. This would normally take the form of a qualified doctor administering a lethal injection, which would end their life painlessly. Many argue that quality of life is an issue, while those on the other side believe life must be preserved at all costs. The arguments from both sides are of both moral and legal ramifications.

Euthanasia is legal in a few modern democracies: the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland. In the Netherlands, voluntary euthanasia has been legal since 1983, with some 3,000 people requesting it each year. In Australia, assisted suicide was legalised in the Northern Territories with the backing of a substantial majority of the local population, but was then overthrown by the Federal Senate before anyone could actually use the new law.

I could keep going on and on about the moral justification of the issue...But what is your view?

I see a lot of you are medical professionals.. and I admire what you do.. and I am glad I am not in any position to have to make that kind of decision for anyone but myself. If something were to happen to my daughter, I would be selfish and hope for a miracle. If something happens to me.. I have already signed a DNR. I could not put my daughter or any other loved ones through the pain and hardships they would have to endure if I did not survive. "A flame that burns twice as bright... burns half as long.." live life and go down swinging!

Working in the medical field gave me HOPE. That there is always a chance no matter how slim things are...I am not against euthanasia because of my religious belief... But because i believe that everyone has a chance and miracles do happen...I've seen it before, when the doctor said a certain patient has no hope to survive, then all of a sudden you'll see improvements on the patient's condition & eventually live...It is my duty to help my patients on this situation to alleviate their pain & suffering, that is why we make them comfortable & pain free. My professional views made it personal for me.

In the light of things, i respect freedom of choice. If ever euthanasia has become legal and regularized in countries who doesn't support it...well, i have to abide by the law that binds it legally in a humane manner.

euthanasia is really quite controversial but it has its benefits..........pain or suffering is secondary to feeelings of self pity and humiliation,a person have the right to die with dignity..............at a certain point in our lives, old age catches up along with various ailments(debilitating or otherwise).in terms of the nursing profession,it's quite hard seeing someone cry silently with no means to verbally communicate...

Ms. Host of this discussion....Q and A, say euthanasia is legal and you were ever asked to administer it, which is very likely because you are a nurse, would you? if so, would it not be against the Hippocratic oath you were sworn to uphold? DEFEND YOUR ANSWER! LMAO... (sana naman sumagot ka nang matino ano, namimiss ko na ang mga sensible thoughts mo.. haha!)

WELL, WELL, WELL...Miss JELLE. Looking for loopholes, You've shot yourself in the foot for asking this question....LOL!!

Euthanasia can be administered by Medical Licensed DOCTOR/PHYSICIAN, registered legally in a euthanasia-participating state/province/county/city/COUNTRY. These doctors should be WILLING to participate as such their patients. Different state or countries have different laws with regards to administering euthanasia. Please refer to google & textbooks for more infos.

So, I therefore conclude that if ever it is legalized where i am right now, then i am not obliged to administer the drugs that will lead to euthanasia. I am not a doctor and... if i am, the current law states that the physician should be a willing participant. I'm not aspiring to become one (in case you'll ask), being a nurse is already a handful. One should never have too much on his plate and not eat it :-)
